Dr Sharma's COVID-19 Update

Coronavirus Update www.doctorsharmadiagnostics.com Hello everyone, ‘Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom’. The late Terry Pratchett. Evidence of how SARS CoV-19 (the virus) is behaving is being correlated worldwide and we are gaining experience of who is likely to succumb to Covid-19 (the disease). Despite the experience, I am not sure much wisdom is reaching us. The latest available official government figures, from May 29th, state there had been...

According to research that was recently carried out in China, eating more fish can boost the quality of sleep in children, and in turn, improve their IQ scores. Covid-19 update from Dr Rajendra Sharma.

The main USA authority, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), based on observations up to the 22nd May (not faulty algorithms and projections) indicate the current USA assessment of the ‘fatality rate’ (the death of those with Covid -19) figures are 0.26%. I cannot find a clear updated figure from the UK on the UK official sites. Our World in Data (www.ourworldindata.org) states mortality figures of: USA - c.0.03% (32 per 100,000), UK - c.0.06 % (58 per 100,000),

Meta-analysis Suggests that Omega-3 Supplements Could Improve Urine Protein Excretion in Diabetics

The effect of omega-3 supplementation on type two diabetics What was most interesting about the findings of the study is that this meta-analysis revealed that omega-3 fatty acids noticeably reduced proteinuria in the group’s 213 type two diabetics. While a decrease was also seen among the 97 participants with type one, this number was negligible, with no significant difference between these individuals and the control group. Researchers suggested that this was down to the difference in the pathophysiology of diabetic nephropathy between type one and type two patients, with the proteinuria in the latter likely to be caused by a number of etiologies, including insulin resistance, concomitant hypertension, and obesity.

Could Curcumin reduce brain inflammation and support an array of other health issues?

In addition to having antioxidant properties, curcumin is known to increase levels of a brain hormone known as BDNF. The result is a boost in the growth of new neurons, which can help to protect against damaging degenerative processes in the brain.

As society comes out of lockdown, we ask can we learn from the experience of past pandemics.

There is an abundance of existing work, research and theories surrounding COVID-19 and similar viruses which remains fairy undiscussed in the mainstream. For people to make truly informed decisions, it is important to gain a holistic view of all available research and facts. Then we are empowered to make informed decisions about the way we choose to view and approach the subject in question. I don’t know about you, but in a bid to reduce societies fear of the current pandemic, I feel a strong need to obtain a greater insight into the real challenges our frontline workers are facing and in doing so I have realised that some interesting lines of enquiry might be found within the findings of the causes of previous pandemics.

Could Our Susceptibility to Covid-19 and Our Predisposition to latent TB Be Connected?

A decade ago, in 2010, The Telegraph reported that London had become the ‘TB capital of Europe’. Sharing a series of statistics which indicated that Britain was the only nation in Western Europe to have logged rising levels of tuberculosis, it revealed that more than 9,000 cases were being diagnosed each year. could it be that people with underlying TB issues respond more negatively to Covid19 infection.

Once again, we are reminded of the power of a little ray of sunshine, that has now been demonstrated to increase the effectiveness of a calorie-controlled diet.

According to a recently released study, vitamin D has now been linked to successful weight loss among those who are dieting. This research, which was conducted in the US, indicates that for every 1 ng/ml increase in the level of 25-hydroxy cholecalciferol (a measure of vitamin D status), individuals on a calorie-restricted diet lost around 0.2kg more. In addition, it was discovered that for every 1 ng/ml increase in the active form of the vitamin, test subjects lost a further 0.107kg.
